VR27 - Electric (EV) and Hybrid Vehicle Awareness

Description

Aimed at sectors of the rescue and recovery industry who are involved in the movement of high voltage vehicles and need an understanding of the specific requirements for the safe handling of such vehicles during transportation/recovery or minor repairs at the roadside. It will provide the student with a basic overview of hybrid and electric vehicles (EV) and health and safety requirements as it affects them in their job role. It aims to provide the knowledge required to comply with the legislation and to operate safely when dealing with Electric (EV) and Hybrid vehicles.

Course aims - to understand:

  • The history of hybrid and electric (EV) vehicles
  • The principles of EV operation
  • The principles of extended range EV operation
  • The principles of hybrid vehicle operation
  • How to identify hybrid and EV vehicles
  • The potential hazards with hybrid and EV vehicles
  • The potential hazards when hybrid and EV vehicles are damaged by fire or impact
  • How to secure the safety of yourself and others at the scene of a disabled or damaged hybrid and EV vehicle
