A tribute to Tom Johnson FIVR (H)

Tom Johnson joined the Institute of Vehicle Recovery in 1999 as an associate member, in 2004 he became a full member and in 2009 was awarded a Fellowship. He was initially seconded on to the IVR Council due to his expertise in procedural issues, having come from a civil service background. In 2012 on stepping down from the Council he was awarded an Honorary Membership, his comment on the occasion was typical Tom; ‘It’s time for the old f*rts to move aside and some new blood with new ideas to pick up the reins and run with it.’

Nikki King OBE said of him, 'Tom has been the most inspirational leader of RISC and his enthusiasm and wise counsel has been invaluable.  He was also a dear friend and mentor and we will miss him so much.  Personally, I feel honoured to have called him a colleague, an inspiration and a good friend and I shall miss him.’

Tom was due to join the IVR for the AGM weekend on 2/3 March but called on the Friday to say he couldn’t make it as he was snowed in. He always enjoyed the social side of the recovery industry and it is a great pity he wasn’t able to join us this year. He will be missed.
